Really Quick Game Review
June 8th, 2007 by Brian
I picked up Shadow of the Colossus at Best Buy for 20 bucks the other day. This game is perfect for those of us who don’t have an ass-ton of time to play an epic adventure game (I do play those from time to time but right now I have too much going on.)
Here’s the premise: You start out with a horse, a sword, a longbow, and a dead girlfriend. You fight sixteen building-sized monsters one after another with the option to save the game in between each fight. The slaying of the sixteen Colossi will supposedly entice the gods to bring the girlfriend back to life.
There are no power-ups, no experience points, no other enemies besides the sixteen, and no dungeons. Just one huge empty landscape filled with forests, mountains, lakes, and the odd ruin. It’s not a simple matter of hack and slash, obviously. Finding the monsters’ weak points can be tricky. Climbing on their back to stab at the weak point, even trickier.
20 bucks well spent.

“Oh shit.”

I’m in the same boat. If I make the decision to play a video game one night, I don’t want to be running around aimlessly trying to collect experience points. I’d rather cut to the chase and fight the big a55 monsters. Thank you very much.
