If you’re a giant robot, why the hell would you EVER need to transform into a freaking VW Beetle?

I nearly forgot that robots feed on old peoples’ medicine and therefore are feared by old people.

What kind of name is “Bumblebee” for a Transformer?

IIRC from the comics, on Cybertron all the robots had an alternate mode they could transform into- how/why they got that way was never explained. The Transformers on Earth got here in a crash-landing that rendered them all inoperable. Their spaceship eventually reactivated and sent out remote sensor drones to recon the planet while it repaired the robots. During the course of said repairs, it changed their alternate modes to blend in with what the drones perceived to be the lifeforms on this planet- manmade machines.

Also, in the movie Bumblee is not a Beetle- I think he might have gotten upgraded to a Mustang.
