Wesley Willis was a schizophrenic musician from Chicago who died in 2003. He spouted random lyrics to preprogrammed patterns on simple keyboards. Lots of people in Chicago have heard of him but I’m guessing that a lot of you in other places haven’t.
I tried to see Wesley in concert on 3 separate occasions but he didn’t show up to any of the shows.
I actually heard about Wesley Willis 10 years ago (7 years before moving to Chicago) from a guy on my crappy summer job paint crew while living in the middle of nowhere in Ohio. Last year I got to chide an ex-GF who used to live in Chicago when she tried to “introduce” me to Wesley Willis, given that I’d told her all about him back then.
