Tolkien’s “new” Book is Finished
March 26th, 2007 by Brian
I’ve known about the impending release of a new book by JRR Tolkien for months but, for some reason, the internet picked today to start yapping about it. People seem fairly divided over it fearing that Christopher Tolkien has defaced the original work in the interest of making a buck or two.
Anyone who has read all of JRR’s work, on the other hand, knows that the storyline for the “new” book has already been published within the pages of The Silmarillion.
I’ve read The Silmarillion twice and I’ll testify that the tale of Hurin and his family is my favorite, aside from The Lord of the Rings, obviously. I personally can’t wait to see it cleaned up and formatted as a proper novel. The Silmarillion is notoriously hard to read and although the chapters about Hurin and Turin are fairly well put together, they’re still not up to “final draft” snuff. I already know how the story ends but I still want to read it simply because there are so many parts in the story that I want to see elaborated upon.
I highly recommend that everyone buy the book, especially if you’ve been digesting that Harry Potter garbage for the last several years.
