It’s a pretty lean day in terms of ideas for posts so I decided to turn to the wayback machine and youtube.

Back in the 90’s MTV had a sketch comedy show called The State. It was a success on MTV but failed to win any viewers when it was picked up by CBS soon after. Most of the players from The State went on to achieve some degree of success. Many of them can be seen on Comedy Central’s Reno 911 as regular cast members or cameo appearances (I’ve been told that the entire cast of The State appears in the Reno movie in some way.) The principal cast members of The State had a show called Stella but it only lasted one season for the same reason that Arrested Development got canceled. The average viewer wasn’t smart enough to get all the jokes.

Every time I make bacon at home I say “sometimes I like a little bacon in my shorts.” My girlfriend usually asks “what the fuck are you talking about?” Because she never saw the bacon sketch. Now she can watch it and know the depths to which The State impacted my psyche. Combined with Beavis and Butthead, I think I can claim being significantly warped by MTV.

I imagine that this post isn’t news to too many people but that’s why I included the clips. I hadn’t seen the Louie clip in many years before digging it up on Youtube just now.
