Barry Bonds readies for a record breaking season
March 2nd, 2007 by Brian
I started this article with the intention of doing a flip-flop. Everyone knows that Bonds only needs something like 22 home runs to break Hank Aaron’s record for home runs in a career. There are an awful lot of people who don’t want him to own that record due to his alleged use of performance enhancing substances such as steroids. What I was going to do was propose that Bonds would not break the home run record, rather, he would be sabotaged by opposing pitchers and managers in the form of base-on-balls. In other words, he would see few good pitches to hit.
So I looked to see who holds the record for most base-on-balls (walks) in a single season.
The record is held by Barry Bonds with 232 walks in 2004. He hit 45 home runs that season.
Fellow Bonds haters…we’re screwed.
